Modern office design for Gas Alberta's hybrid work model

Gas Alberta is a specialized organization that combines utility, trading, financing, and operational expertise into one innovative business unit. Its strengths are rooted in a team of experienced professionals who have cultivated strong, lasting relationships with their customers and stakeholders. Holland was tasked with supporting their tenant improvement project. Our goal was to modernize their office space and enhance their hybrid workplace model, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of their dynamic operations.

The Challenge

Integrating Technology: Technology needed to be seamlessly integrated across all areas to facilitate smooth workflow transitions.

Maintaining Acoustics: We needed to effectively manage acoustics to ensure sound privacy and clarity between offices and meeting rooms while accommodating future growth.

Sophistication and Warmth: Create a sophisticated environment that appeals to board members, while also incorporating elements of warmth and humility. The updated, comfortable work environment was also designed to encourage employees to come into the office while maintaining flexibility in their hybrid workplace policy.

The Solution

We aimed for a clean and streamlined aesthetic while maintaining functionality for Gas Alberta's employees. To add interest and sophistication, bulkhead details were incorporated into feature areas.

A key design element was a communal kitchen for collaboration and socialization. The office layout also included small and large meeting areas, as well as additional offices and workstations to accommodate future growth.

To address the team's workflow and operational needs, we allocated large areas of blank wall space to accommodate the installation of big TVs and whiteboards. The space was enhanced with integrated technology, featuring a client-provided AV package.

Acoustic management was a key focus; we used plenum baffles between partitions to minimize sound transfer and laminated the meeting room glazing to enhance acoustics between work areas.

The Human-Centred Lens

Gas Alberta's workplace design features an open-concept kitchen that functions both as a practical space with ample storage, and as a communal area where employees can relax and connect. We were intentional with the varied seating. It creates a welcoming environment, and the soft seating in the waiting area makes clients feel at home.
